Loch & Cheese – May 24, 2022

Day 18

I think that after Glen Coe and Skye I had picture-taking fatigue. On this day, I did more listening and learning (and tasting of cheese!) One picture I did get on the way from Inverness to Aberdeen was of the pine trees as we drove through Cairngorms National Park. It reminded me a little of the Pine Barrens in South Jersey. I also had taken my Loch Ness pictures on the way to Skye the day before.

Highland Fine Cheeses

We had a fascinating tour of this cheese-making operation. We heard from several experts on the process, the science, and the health and safety aspects of cheese-making.

Of course, you can’t go wrong with tasting such carefully crafted cheeses! We tried cheddar, brie, minger, crowdie, and blue. The blue cheese had the most extensive blue (i.e. fungi) I ever had. They were all delicious!

Loch Ness Centre

It was interesting to learn the history of monster sightings at the loch. Although the music and video style felt a bit dated, they were certainly creative about how the information was presented.


Key Moment of the Day: Dinner with some classmates from the trip.

When I decided to take this trip, I was a little worried about not having much in common with the younger students. There were times I definitely felt like I was coming at things from a different perspective. However, there is nothing like shared experiences to help people relate to each other. I think this trip was an awesome experience for us all, young, old(er), faculty, student.
